A little glimpse into my late summer/autumn finds and songs of the moment, all stamped with the JuJu seal of approval. For the ambitious Spotify playlist with this year’s selection of fresh tracks, plus other ‘heaters’, see here.
⭐ Afterclapp – «Sonho de Vidro» (Zambi, 2019)
Sophisticated Brazilian nu-bossa/downtempo, where classic bossa nova and jazz chords are blended with laid-back beats. A dreamy backdrop that carries a certain saudade — kind of like when summer is drawing to a close.
♨️ Aluminé Guerrero, El Búho, Montoya – «Vamos al Sauce» (Patagonia Patagonia, 2026)
New releases keep flowing from the British owl (El Búho), always with fresh folktronica, and this one has been on repeat all through August. Argentine singer Aluminé Guerrero leads you to new heights in the Andes with her voice, but what impresses me most is how producers El Búho/Montoya manage to capture that distinctly place-rooted, faintly ceremonial beat between the vocals. This is the perfect electro-organic sauce in the pot!
♨️ RUMTUM – «Aspect of a Dream» (In a Forest EP, 2026)
This EP arrived over the summer, and it was easy to get swept up by the atmospheric opening track. Downtempo with a lo-fi aesthetic, reminiscent of the style of Bonobo, Teebs and Tycho, so John Hastings (RUMTUM) finds himself in exceptionally good company here. You know that moment when you drift from sleeping to waking… That’s exactly where this one belongs.
⭐ Quantic & El Búho – «Cumbia Sobre el Mar» (Tributaries: A Remix Album, 2018)
With Quantic’s appearance at Oslo World 2026, this classic earns its place in today’s smoking fresh tracks. Going by my own ear, Quantic has a good ear (this is called ear-to-ear communication) for Colombian and Latin American rhythms — I’m thinking especially of cumbia here, a genre that is, unfortunately, extremely rare on this blog. El Búho is of course also on board for this cumbia remix, being rather prolific these days.
